Solidarität mit den Kämpfen gegen HS2

Seit Jahren kämpfen in Italien, im Susatal tausende Anwohner und Aktivisten gegen den Schnellzug TAV zwischen Turin (Italien) und Lyon (Frankreich), oder in Mexico gegen den TrenMaya auf der Yucatan Halbinsel. Auch in Deutschland kämpften Menschen gegen scheinbar ökologische Zugprojekte, wie etwa Stuttgart 21. Gleiches geschieht in Großritannien wo tausende gegen HS2, einen 120 km langn neuen Schnellzug protestieren, mit Aktionen, Demonstrationen, Petitionen und Besetzungen. All diese Projekte haben gemein, dass sie einem in den meisten Fällen sinnvollen Gedanken folgen, den Zugverkehr verbessern, aber in der Praxis ökologische und sozial desaströse Folgen haben und einzig und allein dem kapitalistischen Wachstumszwang folgen.
Züge sind natürlich insgesamt betrachtet ökologischer als Autos und der Umstieg ist förderlich, wird aber nicht durch Hochgeschwindigkeitszüge erreicht, welche auf sehr langen Strecken die Reisezeit verkürzen und somit den Verkehr anheizen. Anstatt weit entfernte Regionen zu verbinden und somit die ländlichen Regionen zu vernachlässigen, müssten Regionallinien ausgebaut, reaktiviert und an klassiche Schnellzugstecken angebunden werden. Eine Verkehrswende beinhaltet vor allem eine Verkürzung von Wegen, also möglichst lokale Produktion und Konsum, welche durch Hochgeschwindigkeitszüge nicht gefördert wird. Der Hochgeschwindigkeitszug HS2, welcher Birmingham und London verbinden soll, ist ein ökonomisch und ökolischen desaströses Projekt. Selbst nach 120 Jahren Nutzung würden die CO2 Werte noch steigen und damit nicht “CO2-neutral” in der Bau- und Nutzzeit. Der Umstieg von Flugzeugen auf Schnellzüge wird mit diesem Projekt auch nicht gefördert, da eine Schienenanbindung an HS1 fehlt, was eine mögliche Verbindung von Manchester nach Paris nicht weiterbringt. Zusätzlich betrifft die Trasse direkt oder indirekt über 350 Naturräume, darunter mindestens 24 mit der höchsten Schutzstufe. Seit Jahren gibt es ein vielfältiges Engagement gegen dieses Projekt. Mit Petitionen, Gesprächen mit Abgeordneten und Demonstrationen wurde versucht den Bau zu verhindern. Nach enormen Druck durch Blockaden, Baum- und Tunnelbesetzungen sowie Actions Camps steht das größte Entwaldungsprojekt, auch wegen überhöhten Kosten, gerade auf der Kippe.
Wir, Menschen aus der Waldbesetzung BeschBleibt, solidarisieren uns deswegen mit den Kämpfen gegen HS2.

Solidarity with the struggels against HS2

For years, in Italy, in the Susa Valley, thousands of residents and activists have been fighting against the TAV high-speed train between Turin (Italy) and Lyon (France), or in Mexico against the TrenMaya on the Yucatan Peninsula. In Germany, too, people have been fighting against seemingly ecological train projects, such as Stuttgart 21. The same is happening in Great Britain, where thousands are protesting against HS2, a 120 km long new express train, with actions, demonstrations, petitions and occupations. All these projects have in common that in most cases they follow a sensible idea, improving train traffic, but in practice have ecological and socially disastrous consequences and follow only the capitalist growth imperative.
Trains are, of course, on the whole more ecological than cars, and the changeover is beneficial, but it is not achieved by high-speed trains, which reduce travel time on very long routes and thus increase traffic. Instead of connecting distant regions and thus neglecting rural areas, regional lines should be expanded, reactivated and connected to classic high-speed lines. A turnaround in transportation primarily involves a shortening of distances, i.e., production and consumption that is as local as possible, which is not promoted by high-speed trains. The high-speed train HS2, which is supposed to connect Birmingham and London, is an economically and ecologically disastrous project. Even after 120 years of use, the CO2 values would still rise and thus not “CO2 neutral” in the construction and use time. The change from airplanes to fast trains is also not promoted with this project, because a rail connection to HS1 is missing, which does not help a possible connection from Manchester to Paris. Additionally, the route directly or indirectly affects over 350 natural areas, including at least 24 with the highest level of protection. For years, there has been a multifaceted commitment against this project. With petitions, discussions with members of parliament and demonstrations, attempts have been made to prevent the construction. After enormous pressure through blockades, tree and tunnel occupations as well as action camps, the largest deforestation project is currently on the brink of collapse, also due to excessive costs.
We, people from the forest occupation BeschBleibt, are therefore in solidarity with the struggles against HS2.
